Gawon Song is a junior photography major at Purchase College. Born in South Korea, she moved to the suburbs of New York in 2005.  Through her photography, she is able to examine her identity by observing and confronting cultural norms. She photographs events and small encounters around her to allow others to have a closer view of her familiar world.

Recently, she has been exploring and combating the stereotypes and fetishisms forced on to Asian women.  Driven by her childhood to adulthood, Gawon applies her experiences to create pictures that reflect her identity in everyday settings.
